Bellator Birmingham Interview: Lee Chadwick
Heavy Duty fighter Lee “The Butcher” Chadwick (24-14-1) takes on James Mulheron (11-3) on Saturday night at Bellator Birmingham, stepping up in weight to light heavyweight.
This is Chadwick’s second fight under the Bellator banner and this step up in weight comes after previous issues with making the 185lbs middleweight limit.
“The Butcher” isn’t phased by the step up in weight though and thinks it will be a major advantage for himself, telling Newsome MMA exclusively: “I’m going to be a completely different animal in there.”
“I’m at my natural weight now, I’m not having to do any crazy weight cuts, I feel comfortable.
“I feel fit, strong, explosive… the fight with Fabian [Edwards] was a shadow of my former self, that wasn’t me in the cage, but this is going to be me in the cage on Saturday.”
The move up in weight has allowed the ASW fighter to train harder and his diet for this fight isn’t just salads but a lot more carb and protein based, allowing him to work harder.
Last time Chadwick fought, he was beaten on the judges’ scorecards by the aforementioned Edwards, but this fight will be a completely different style of fight.
“It’s going to be a first round knockout or submission, depending on where I get him first or I’ll get the win in the second round, I don’t see it going the distance.”
Speaking about his opponent James Mulheron, who steps down from heavyweight to light heavyweight for this fight, Chadwick was confident about his chances, while being respectful of the man he will be fighting: “His losses are at a very high level so you’ve got to take that into account.
“I’m hoping he brings it, and gives me a good fight, because I’m looking for a good war.
“I’m excited to fight him.”
Chadwick also added that he is excited to see Bellator investing in the European MMA scene and that it is a privilege to be considered skilled enough to fight on such a big stage.
Bellator Birmingham will be broadcast on Channel 5 on Saturday night, and Newsome MMA will be there as part of the media. Look out for live posts on social media along with post-fight interviews with the fighters this weekend.
